CthulhuCthulhu for EvelynEvelyn
June 16th, 2010 · 3 CommentsTomorrow night, I’m going to see Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley‘s project EvelynEvelyn in concert. In brief, EvelynEvelyn is the sort of thing which (I conjecture) happens when two musicians end up (drinking? and) playing around one night and decide to see if they can co-play an accordion—one hand each. When they can and enjoy it, they (being also performance artists) begin writing an elaborate story about conjoined twin musicians.
Eventually there’s more music, more backstory, and finally a CD & tour. I’ve been a fan of Amanda Palmer’s for a while and I love the sound she & Jason Webley created, how different it is from their normal stuff. I also find the story fascinating. I think some people are disturbed by their sometimes talking as though it were real, but that’s how this story is presented…it’s not written down in a novel, it’s acted out like a play would be only without a limited stage and timeframe. If you approach it like a novel then yes it’s disturbing but so many good novels are.
I’m looking forward to the show. Last time Amanda Palmer was in DC, I made her a Cthulhu. It was part for her & part for her not-quite-yet fiancé Neil Gaiman and wore an awesome striped sweater. I’d seen from blog posts & tweets that they’d already gotten conjoined dolls and conjoined elephants. But on Sunday night, the thought struck—what about a pair of Cthulhus?
It was a fascinating challenge, figuring out where and how to join them. I had the perfect shade of lavender yarn to make them a dress to match the Evelyns. Here are a few pics I snapped as soon as I finished them, the fourth is of their undersides midway through:

The conjoined cthulhus are awesome. I love them.
My only frame of reference for Amanda Palmer is via Neil Gaiman, but I followed one of his links (or retweets) for Evelyn Evelyn, and I really liked what I heard. One of these days, when I’ve got some spare cash, I’d really like to check out the full album.

One awesome thing about Amanda Palmer in general is that she puts her music online so you can listen for free before buying. You can check out their music here:
